The U.S. government released 28 declassified documents on October 23, 2026, detailing Department of Defense-funded investigations into paranormal activity at Skinwalker Ranch and a recent unsolved "black triangle" UAP sighting [5].

These files are part of "PURSUE," the government's UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) disclosure project [5]. The release provides a record of how military and intelligence agencies have funded research into phenomena often dismissed as occult, including the AAWSAP program [5]. This documentation reveals a historical relay of data, as approximately 13,000 data points from Project Blue Book—the Air Force's official UFO investigation during the 1950s and 60s—were integrated into the modern AAWSAP database during the 2000s [5].

Investigations into Utah paranormal activity

One central piece of the release is a 60-page report detailing an investigation conducted in March and April 2010 [6]. Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS), a private organization commissioned by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), sent scientists and investigators to a site near Fort Duchesne, Utah [5][6]. The team utilized surveillance cameras and electromagnetic wave detectors, specifically erecting seven digital trail cameras across the ranch and surrounding properties [5][6].

The report includes witness sketches of bipedal wolf-like beasts, dwarves, and giant glowing orbs [5]. Other reported sightings included giant worms, prehistoric flying reptile-like bird creatures, and small humanoids with abnormally long arms [6]. One witness described a six-foot-tall "Skinwalker"—a creature from Navajo lore said to be a person who breached tribal taboos and can assume animal forms—running past his house [6]. The witness noted the creature had dark fur, pointed ears, and a head resembling a German shepherd but with a more human-looking nose [6]. This account led investigators to collect hair samples from a barbed-wire fence where the creature allegedly became entangled [6].

Despite these accounts, the documents state that physical evidence did not prove paranormal activity [5]. DNA testing performed on the hair samples recovered from the fence identified the material as belonging to a dog and a raccoon [4][5]. Additionally, BAASS staff investigated the use of plants as biological sensors to check for potential chemical or radiation exposure, but the investigation failed to reveal anything out of the ordinary [6].

Physics-based explanations for anomalies

The property is currently owned by Utah real-estate mogul Brandon Fugal and has been featured in a seven-season HISTORY Channel series, The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch [1].

Other visitors also reported feeling the ground spinning [1]. Bard initially hypothesized the flickering was caused by poor cell reception, but he was unable to reproduce the effect in experiments [1].

Bard eventually tested his theory using a rare-earth magnet capable of lifting 1,750 pounds of iron, which reproduced the phone glitch [1]. He concluded that an unusual electromagnetic field on the ranch could cause technological malfunctions—similar to reported glitches in drones, batteries, computers, and surveillance systems—and affect the human nervous system [1]. Bard noted that MRI technicians often experience similar vertigo, nausea, and balance issues due to strong magnetic fields [1].

"That was the beginning of trying to put a physics interpretation on some part of the phenomenon," Bard said [1].

2026 black triangle encounter

The October release also documents a 2026 encounter involving a "matte black triangle" sighted by three federal special agents near a key security facility in the western United States [5]. The object, which did not reflect light and measured between 4 and 4.6 meters long, reportedly rose vertically near a mountain peak and hovered for 20 seconds [5].

According to the report, the craft then descended 2.4 km into a valley in approximately three seconds, reaching an estimated speed of 2,900 km/h [5]. Agents reported no engine noise or exhaust heat, and a subsequent ground search found no debris or crash marks [5].

The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) has classified the identity of this craft as "unsolved" [5]. This case adds to a history of reported anomalies at the ranch, which include missing or disfigured cattle, invisible objects emitting hazardous magnetic fields, and Bigfoot-like creatures with red eyes that were allegedly unaffected by bullets [6].

What we don't know

  • What is the source of the unusual electromagnetic activity identified by Erik Bard?
  • What was the identity of the matte black triangle sighted by federal agents in 2026?
  • Why did the 2010 BAASS investigation fail to find physical evidence of the creatures described in witness sketches?
  • Was the "werewolf-like creature" reported outside the home of a Pentagon UFO investigator in Virginia related to the phenomena observed at Skinwalker Ranch?
