The U.S. Pentagon released its seventh batch of declassified UAP files on October 23, 2026, containing reports of matte black triangular craft [4].

The release is part of a transparency initiative providing public access to unresolved reports and historical records [4].

Seventh batch of declassified files

The latest release consists of 28 PDF documents, some including images [4]. No separate audio or video files were included in this tranche [4].

These files are hosted on WAR.GOV/UFO under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, known as PURSUE [4].

This batch is the most recent of seven releases conducted between May 8 and October 23, 2026 [4]. Previous releases occurred on May 22, June 12, July 10, August 7, and September 18 [4].

"The Department of War is publishing the seventh release of declassified and historical Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files," said Sean Parnell, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and Chief Pentagon Spokesman [4]. Parnell noted that the Department of War and its agency partners are working on subsequent releases on a rolling basis [4].

Observations of triangular craft

Among the documents is a June 2026 memorandum from the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), detailing observations at a sensitive national security site in the western United States [4].

The memorandum records a witness debrief involving two Federal Special Agents and a corroborating account from a third official at a separate observation post [4].

Witnesses described a matte black triangular object approximately 13-15 feet wide, 6-9 feet long, and 1-2 feet high [4].

AARO noted the object's physical features and kinematic profiles aligned with other reported incidents in the western U.S. region [4].

Such craft are staples of UAP lore dating to the 1950s and 60s, often described as silent, capable of fast acceleration, and featuring bright lights at the corners or a pulsing red light in the center [4].

FY2025 unresolved cases

The release follows AARO's FY2025 Annual Report, which covers the period from June 2, 2024, to May 30, 2025 [3]. During this time, AARO received 319 UAP-related reports [3].

Of those cases, 114 were explained as ordinary objects, while 205 remained unresolved [3]. AARO also resolved 256 previous reports [3].

The 205 unresolved cases refer to the number of reports submitted, not the number of unique independent objects [3].

Additionally, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand reported that new analytical methods identified 238 cases as satellite flares, which occur when sunlight reflects off satellites in low orbit [3].

Government definitions and NASA data

The government distinguishes between investigation status and the origin of a phenomenon [3].

According to guidelines, "unidentified" describes the status of the investigation when it begins, not the cause of the phenomenon [3].

Claims that UAP came from extraterrestrial origins require more evidence than reports that cases are unresolved [3].

A 2023 report by a NASA independent study team cited challenges including a lack of baseline comparative data, insufficient detailed records during filming, and unverified measurement equipment precision [3].

NASA's October 2026 updated FAQ stated that scientific conclusions about the nature of UAP cannot be drawn because there are few high-quality observations [3]. The FAQ also stated there is no data to support the idea that UAP are extraterrestrial technology [3].

What we don't know

  • What specific "new analytical methods" identified the 238 satellite flares?
  • Which "sensitive national security site" in the western US saw the triangular craft sightings?
  • Why are some UAP documents from the 1940s-60s being released only now?
